Stage 3 of the 2026 UCI WorldTour Tour of Guangxi brought riders from Jinxiu Ancient Town in Jingxi all the way to Longevity Square in Bama. Stretching 211.9 kilometers, it was the race’s longest stage this year. The route was full of constant ups and downs, with two rated climbs waiting in the latter half, putting riders’ endurance and willingness to attack to the ultimate test.

On October 15, Wang Ruidong from China’s national team broke clear of the main field, hunting for points in the King of the Mountains battle. He successfully earned points on the Category 2 climb at kilometer 149.3 and the Category 3 climb at kilometer 183.2. With these points added together, he rose to first place in the KOM standings and climbed onto the podium to wear the iconic blue-and-white polka-dot jersey for the race’s top climber.

This is a milestone: never before has a Chinese rider worn the polka-dot jersey in the Tour of Guangxi. It is also the first time any Chinese male road cyclist has secured a classification jersey at the top-tier UCI WorldTour level.

The peloton gradually reeled in the escapees as riders fought through Guangxi’s karst mountains, drained by the brutal long-distance effort. But Wang Ruidong stayed in the mix until the end, pushing hard up every ascent to secure his mountain points. Back in stage 1, he finished 13th in a chaotic bunch sprint. Showing explosive sprint speed alongside solid climbing stamina, he has delivered impressive fighting spirit throughout this edition of the Tour of Guangxi.
Team Cofidis’ Milan Fretin ended up winning the stage, yet the most thrilling moment for Chinese supporters was seeing Wang Ruidong receive the polka-dot jersey.
On the podium right here in Guangxi, this blue-and-white jersey is more than just the King of the Mountains honour. It embodies the perseverance and breakthroughs of China’s road cycling athletes. At this home WorldTour event, “Chinese cycling power” is no longer limited to participation — it is now competing at the very top.

There is still racing ahead, and the defence of the polka-dot jersey is about to begin. We look forward to Wang Ruidong retaining his lead in the mountain classification over the remaining stages and unlocking more achievements among Guangxi’s peaks.
